Digital transformation is no time to have a confidence crisis by Julien Nadaud

I talk to Chief Procurement Officers (CPOs) all the time about their challenges and frustrations. Few if any seem held back by a lack of confidence or uncertainty about whether procurement needs digital transformation. In fact, CPOs are most often frustrated, because they know what they and their teams are capable of doing on behalf of the enterprise, but they don’t necessarily have the support required to translate that potential into results.

Ask the Expert: *ASIA PAC Time Friendly* The Case for Optimism - what are you optimistic about?

How many business leaders do you know who aren’t optimists?

Indeed, IACCM surveys have suggested that our members often attribute failed projects to the over-optimism of top management. As a result, many see the role of contract and commercial managers as bringing balance, a dose of reality, and facing up to the real risks. For the executive optimists, this may be viewed as pessimism and negativity, and lead to limited or late involvement. Optimism, however, is a good trait. Research shows it is associated with better health, a longer life, and greater success.

Contract Governance Survey

In this survey, we are seeking responses from practitioners who are familiar with the governance of complex managed services and/or outsourced agreements, irrespective of buy- or sell-side focus. In our experiences, it is likely that this governance will involve aspects of the following: multiple committees, escalation paths, joint planning, dashboards, agreed mechanisms to drive innovation, changes in scope, organizational change management, etc.

Optimism and Prevention in Contracting Report

A high proportion of lawyers and contract managers who work in a corporate environment feel that their contribution to the business is misunderstood. They also believe that they could add greater value if they were involved in situations at an earlier stage. This study, which is based on research undertaken with members of the International Association for Contract & Commercial Management (IACCM) confirms that these perceptions are widespread.

Trends in Payment Terms Survey Results 2019

Across all participants, the average contractual payment term specified by buyers is 43.5 days (an improvement since the last survey in 2017, when the average was 47 days). A 30-day payment term remains the most common, specified by 53% of respondents. The trend observed in 2017 towards longer payment periods appears to have stalled and, in some cases, reversed. Reasons cited include the impacts of the regulation (particularly within the European Union) and reputational damage from adverse publicity.
